Finally, outside of Google+, your identity shines most when you help grow your community by attending local meet-ups, conferences or even just providing your expertise for free. Google+ is a Failure
Based on anecdotal and statistical information, it seems the people that are truly involved in any sort of Google+ community are the people that stand to benefit from widespread uptake of the platform and Google themselves.
Bottom line Author Rank is never going to entice the masses into abandoning their long-standing relationship with Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
At the moment, Google+ is like a pool of piranhas. The piranhas in this metaphor being online marketers, waiting to segment, target and sell to any real person that dares to step into the water.
Google+ has great features, millions of members and plenty of famous advocates and yet as the diagram below shows it is almost completely devoid of organic life.
In the meantime internet users continue to use Google and seem all too willing to accept the obscene profits ripped from digital marketers trying to promote their products and services on the internet.

Those statistics are very eye opening.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how Google is failing to compete with Facebook.
At the same time, Microsoft (Bing serach engine) is somewhat succeeding in competing with Google.
Isaac, the market need a second major player to compete against Google and while Bing is a good start it has a long way to go.
DeleteWith 85% global dominance and over 60 Billion Dollars annual profits Google is being allowed to run not just its own race buy yours and mine as well. If they are allowed to maintain this dominance then their actions like https:// that deny you and every other SEO playing in the market a fair opportunity to compete on a free internet, their SEO CHURN aimed at cycling SEO ranked companies off of page one and this latest proposed change of Author Rank will screw us all while position Google to drive their annual 60 Billion Dollar Profit into 100 billion and who knows where from there.
Google+ can't be a failure because Google is a success.
ReplyDeleteJon, the evidence does not lie. Google+ has been a flop by comparison to Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest and that is why Google (highly successful in all of their other endeavours) are going to FORCE website owners to use Google+. The penalty for not using Google+ will be a decreasing SEO ranking even though Facebook and Twitter offer access to superior Social Media options for establishing an Authors credibility. Take my example my Twitter following is over 36,000 and 40% of my website visitors come from Twitter, while my Facebook has 3,500 friends compared to 50 on Google+. Have a look at the statistics in the image on this blog and you can only come to one conclusion Google+ is way behind Facebook, Twitter and is comparable to Pinterest in reach and influence. The evidence does not LIE!
DeleteGreat Infographic!
